The Center of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Feldman Ecopark realizes the “We Learn to Speak in Ecopark” project. The unique arrangement, natural resources and animals of Regional Landscape Park give opportunities to help children and adults with various diseases and frustrations among which – a delay in speech development of kids.
“It is very widespread problem, owing to various reasons and associated diseases, many children have delay in speech development. Having created favorable conditions on the territory of Ecopark, we want to give children an impetus to development of the expressional speech and informative processes by means of colloquial and focused methods, – the head of psychological service of the Center Tatyana Aliyeva told. – For this purpose we use a game animal-assisted therapy”.
As experts note, the application of an animal-assisted therapy in work with children with a delay in speech development can be useful as children and animals find much in common: both those, and others depend on adults, live the present moment, use nonverbal forms of communication, know how it is to play naturally and feel freely. In a game animal-assisted therapy the emphasis is placed not on control, but on the relations: children learn how to behave validly and humanely with an animal, the animal therapist also learns how to behave during occupations.
“The purpose of such occupations – development of the relations in which the therapist enters the world of the child considers the thoughts, feelings, perception and ideas which are of great importance for the child and provides emotionally safe environment. In such conditions children can overcome problems, purpose fears or anxiety and to move forward in the direction of psychosocial health”, – the head of a health service of the Center Inna Vashkite noted.
We will remind that the Center of Psychosocial Rehabilitation began to work in 2013. Professional psychologists and psychotherapists provide complex psychological and social assistance to children and teenagers with various mental disabilities, and also to their families.
