Badger from Saltivka Released in Reserve

Badger found on the outskirts of Saltivka almost a month ago, successfully underwent rehabilitation in the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” and returned to the natural habitat. Now the animal will live at liberty and in safety in the conservation area (the Sloboda National Natural Park.)

“We can say that our badger had a great stroke of luck – here are ideal conditions for life of this species of mammals listed in Ukrainian Red Book earlier, but had, fortunately, restored the population. We hope that it will find couple and continue the family line, – the head of the science and monitoring department of Feldman Ecopark Andrii Hapchenko told. – We plan to develop cooperation with Sloboda NPP, as well as with other colleagues engaged in conservation of nature and biodiversity in our country and beyond its limits. In particular, we consider the possibility of participation in joint projects for recovery of mink, otter and European lynx.”

It should be noted that Feldman Ecopark together with the World Open Foundation for Animal Rehabilitation and Reintroduction (WOFARR) actively participates in preservation and return to the natural habitat of different types of Ukrainian fauna. “Certainly, annual releases of birds and bats are most widely known, but there are other equally interesting programmes and projects, as well. For example, in the nearest future we plan to open The Park of Birds and, under advisory assistance of Odessa Zoo, to launch the project on reintroduction of eagle owl, black kite, white-tailed sea eagle and other Red List species.”, Andrii Hapchenko shared plans.

It should be reminded that the World Open Foundation for Animal Rehabilitation and Reintroduction (WOFARR) is a global environmental organization comprising the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Good Home”, the Bat Rehabilitation Center and some other projects of Feldman Eсopark. WOFARR is aimed at the development and introduction of efficient animal and environment protection strategies, methods and technologies, the development and introduction of the programmes of reduction of risk zones on a global map of flora and fauna, and to unite the world community into the international animal and environment protection network.
