Feldman Ecopark’s young naturalists won top places at national scientific competition

The members of the Children’s Ecology and Nature Study Academy of Feldman Ecopark won the second and the fourth places at the second stage of the National Competition Intel-Eco-Ukraine 2018. It was arranged by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the National Environmental and Naturalist Centre of Studying Youth and took place in Kyiv in the beginning of February.

It is the biggest and the most prestigious scientific event for schoolchildren in our country – the national stage of the annual international competition Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF). This year, 305 student’s projects from all over Ukraine took part in it. Kharkiv was represented by six contestants, four of them are the members of the Children’s Ecology and Nature Study Academy of Feldman Ecopark.

The work by Kseniia Ukolova and Kateryna Kanevska “The study of mental abilities and behavioural peculiarities of ring-tailed lemurs” won the 4th place on the biology section, while Kateryna Kravchenko with her research “Polymorphism of intermicrosatellite DNA sequences in Festuca cretacea species population” won the 2nd place at the national competition. The work by the youngest participant Lisa Prokhodenko “How to help zoo animals to fight boredom” aroused a huge interest among judges.

“Our children successfully combine the performances in the Theatre of Children and Animals and the lessons in other scientific departments of the Children’s Ecology and Nature Study Academy. They regularly take part in scientific conferences and forums of studying youth, and won top places at many national competitions,” their teacher and the head of the Theatre of Children and Animals Olena Harazhina told. “I am sure that this intensive activity will serve as a great foundation for the choice of the future profession and the path of life. I hope that in the future, we will know them as the stars of Ukrainian biological science.”

It should be reminded that the Children’s Ecology and Nature Study Academy of Feldman Ecopark is one of Ukraine’s largest non-governmental out-of-school educational institutions. More than 1,000 children of different age study in it. There are more than a dozen of different departments and clubs in it: Horse Complex, Theatre of Children and Animals, Young Naturalists-Biologists Club, EcoSmarty Children Development School, Young Cynologist Club, Master City creative studio, Ski and Biathlon Club, Tourist Multidiscipline Competition Group, and many more.
