Psychological support lessons for children take place in Feldman Ecopark’s Centre of Psychosocial Rehabilitation

From the beginning of 2018, psychological support lessons for children take place in the Feldman Ecopark. This group is created for children and teenagers with social maladjustment arising against the backdrop of psychological pressure from the society – family, peers and school.

The specialists claim that such pupils regarded as “black sheep” in collectives can become derelicts and a scorn of bullying; there is a threat of formation of destructive behavior models. Therefore, professional psychological support is extremely important for them in stabilization of the emotional sphere, formation of effective communication skills and teamwork, acquiring ethical and moral standards.

“Today the group of psychological support for children consists of 7 boys and girls at the age of 9-12 years. These children together with their families had been pre-assessed and test-screened. The problems they faced are connected with feeble conative orientation, low working abiliity, emotional instability, unsociability, asthenization and other psychoneurotic aspects. They lead to social maladjustment, such as underachievement and misconduct at school, various conflicts with parents and peers. The specialists of our Centre help children to understand themselves and to choose the correct strategy of social behaviral adaptation, – the head of psychological service of Feldman Ecopark Centre of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Tetiana Aliieva told. – The lessons take place every Saturday and in addition include bibliotherapeutic elements with study of literary plots at the personal level, art and therapeutic skills that are used not only in correctional, but also in the diagnostic purposes. And of course, the animal assisted therapy. In particular, we use therapy dogs, as they are the best social partners. In the future we plan to involve horses, ponies and donkeys as an incentive and encouragement”.

According to Tetiana Aliieva, such form of work as groups of psychological support is widely applied around the world to work with the adults having various behavioral problems. “We applied this methodology to children and teenagers, having created the open and safe platform. And, above all, we added an eco-therapeutic component, the unique opportunities of the Regional Landscape Park”, – she emphasized.

It should be also reminded that Feldman Ecopark Centre of Psychosocial Rehabilitation was opened in 2013, and provides assistance to children with different diseases, mental and behavioral disorders, and to adults, in particular, the families of IDPs and ATO veterans. Since its opening, more than 6,300 persons, including 1,900 children underwent rehabilitation in the Centre.
