The Feldman Ecopark Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation conducted lessons for children with rare diseases. The visit of the Social and Humanitarian Multi-Complex by children suffering from rare diseases, such as Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy was held within the Parent project “MioLife” that is implemented in different cities of Ukraine.
The group of 17 people – the children suffering from rare diseases, accompanying by parents visited Ecopark where except a fascinating tour and acquaintance to the inhabitants of our zoo, the Feldman Ecopark Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation organized for them a special lesson including elements of animal therapy.
“These children have very specific diseases, therefore our work was directed to the emotional sphere – creation of positive emotions, which allow the child to distract from a disease, to be attracted to new, still unknown, but at the same time pleasant feelings, which arise from the communication with animals”, – the head of the medical service of the Centre of Psychosocial Rehabilitation of the Feldman Ecopark Inna Vashkite told.
The lessons in animal-assisted therapy for little guests to Feldman Ecopark which were conducted in the territory of the Horse Complex included communication with donkeys and dogs – skilled animal therapists with whom children communicated and pet them, receiving important tactile contact and expanding their own range of positive emotions.
It should be reminded that this year the Feldman Ecopark Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation launched field lessons within the project “Lessons of Kindness”. Classes in canine-assisted therapy are given in a format of visit of special schools. The lessons continued during summer holidays, as well. In August, the Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation organized special animal-assisted therapy lessons in Feldman Ecopark for pupils of the Special teaching and educational complex of V.G. Korolenko during their tour in Feldman Ecopark.
