The Orienteering Festival in Feldman Ecopark came to the end

The open applied orienteering championship took place in the Feldman Ecopark. It was initiated within the “My Eco-path” program by public organization “Public Safety Outpost ” with assistance of the International Charitable Foundation “Oleksandr Feldman Foundation”. This tournament became the last stage of the Orienteering Festival which took place within “The 1000 teams” project.

As organizers emphasize, such competitions develop the participants physically and intellectually, learn to take quick decisions in extreme situations, to be team players, cultivate the will to win. They are irreplaceable for maintenance of morale and Cossack spirit, instilling future defenders, are useful to everyone’s health and are ideal for the family rest.

About 80 people, including patriot public organizations among which – the participants of anti-terrorist operation took part in the tournament. According to them, such activities, as well as visiting the Feldman Ecopark, contribute to their psychosocial rehabilitation and normalization of the family atmosphere.

The main difference of the applied orienteering from usual sport orienteering tournaments is that the sportsmen start the route after physical activities: the cross-country run (cross-country). The sportsmen overcame 2 km of the cross-country route on the Ecopark forest tracks with height difference; then they went on passing the orienteering route (1,6 km on a straight line) on which they used maps needed to choose the shortest way to checkpoints at which they made marks in electronic chips. The winners were determined by the general result of passing of two types of the competition.

Further the regular holding of similar activities involving everyone is planned.

It should be noted that the orienteering develops as a part of 1,000 Teams Tournament project, which takes place on the territory of the Feldman Ecopark since 2015. Thanks to this festival, which is held twice a year in the Feldman Ecopark almost 50,000 residents of Kharkiv and Kharkiv region acquired the skills of orienteering with the help of compass and topographic map.

In particular, on October 8 in the Feldman Ecopark the orienteering championship of the Kharkiv region among school students “The Big Hopes” in which participated more than 400 children and teenagers aged from 12 up to 18 years from all districts of the Kharkiv region. Within the implementation of  the “My Eco-path” program the creation of the International Orienteering Center and the development of  the orienteering sections on the basis of comprehensive schools is planned.
