In Feldman Eсopark nurse six baby birds of a long-eared owl. Birds aged from two weeks to one month were brought to our keepers by Kharkiv citizens. They in turn found kids in the wood.
“All six owlets feel great. For some time, about a month, nestlings will live at us. We will bring up them, and then we will surely release them in nature. Of course, those who won’t be able to adapt to independent life will stay in Ecopark”, – the veterinarian Feldman Ecopark Anna Zhukovskaya tells.
Specialists of Ecopark continue to receive owlets from citizens, including sometimes those birds that didn’t need help at all.
“The big problem is that from not knowing people do to these nestlings a disservice: finding the tiny owlet on the earth in the wood, they believe that an animal is in trouble and carry him to Ecopark, – the deputy director Valeria Ivashchenko explains. – Actually these owlets are just fledglings. Nestlings left a nest as they learn to fly and to be independent. Kids jump on the ground, climb trees and try to flutter from branch to branch for the first time. They aren’t thrown – mother and father watch children, but from the right distance”.
If there are no wounds on a nestling and his little body is densely covered by feathers – it means that he is alright and ready for the first lessons of flight, is told in Ecopark. But if you see predatory animals near the owlet, he is in dangerous place or is injured, and then the assistance of experts is indispensable.
