A cheerful company of baboons in Feldman Ecopark is increased – a yellow baboon kid was born the other day (yellow baboons, like the other residents of the Regional Landscape Park – hamadryas baboons – are the species of baboon). It is currently staying under the thorough care of its mother.
“The specialists keep an eye on the kid all the time, so we know that it feels fine and everything is in order. However, its mother holds it all the time and lets nobody approach it, that is why we still do not know the sex. Nevertheless, the similar mother’s care is very important for the newborn,” Feldman Ecopark’s deputy director of zootechnics Valeriia Ivashchenko says.
A little yellow baboon, as well as its congeners, lives in the winter enclosure now. So the visitors of Feldman Ecopark will be able to look at it only in spring, when the weather allows to settle the heat-loving residents of African plains in the enclosures outdoors.
Yellow baboons represent the species of real baboons of the Cercopithecidae family. These monkeys populate the savannahs of Central and Eastern Africa. As they are social animals, like chimpanzees, they live in troops with distinctive hierarchy.
It should be reminded that the collection of primates in Feldman Ecopark consisting of nearly 200 animals of 30 species includes 13 yellow baboons and 11 hamadryas baboons.
