A newborn representative of the brightest primates of the world, mandrills, appeared in the Feldman Ecopark. It is the first time during the existence of the Ecopark, when the representatives of this monkey species bred: little boy Slava and little girl Sonia.
“This is the huge event not only for us,” the Director of the Feldman Ecopark Andrii Roshchupkin says. “During the last 30 years, these primates are among the protected species, which are threatened with extinction.”
The baby animals are accompanied with their parents round the clock. Their main food is breast milk. Recently, the young mandrills have started to experiment trying new ‘adult’ products – various fruits and vegetables.
“Little mandrills are currently under the supervision of vets and caring workers. Fortunately, the animals are healthy, that is why they get only preventive vitaminization,” the vet of the Feldman Ecopark Anna Zhukovska told.
It should be noted that the Feldman Ecopark has the biggest collection of primates in Ukraine. There are near 180 monkeys of 30 species in the Regional Landscape Park.
