On Sunday, July 30, fifteen turtles and seven swans were released to the nature in the location of Three Lakes in the Regional Landscape Park. The animals underwent the rehabilitation course in the Service for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home.”
During the turtle release campaign, the organizers told to its young participants about how to take care of these unique representatives of the animal world, the peculiarities of their maintenance in captivity and of their life in the wild. “We tried to persuade the participants of the campaign not to take turtles home, as it is better for them in the nature,” Svitlana Vyshnevetska, the head of the sector Rodents and Terrarium of Feldman Ecopark told.
“During the period left before it gets cold, the animals will have enough time to get used to the new place and to prepare to winter. Every released animal will be marked for the young naturalists of the Club of Young Biologists to be able to keep them under observation. Before the release of this party, we have already released three turtles. When we came to feed them, we saw that they feel good and one of them even tried to oviposit. This means that the conditions are appropriate,” Svitlana Vyshnevetska tells.
According to Svitlana Vyshnevetska, Kharkiv residents often bring turtles to Feldman Ecopark, and sometimes their number reaches 15 animals per weekend. Some of these turtles need veterinarian’s assistance, and if it is possible to cure them, they are later released to the nature as well. It is already the third similar campaign this year. The total of 68 turtles was released during the warm season by the specialists of Feldman Ecopark.
On the same day, seven inhabitants obtained their new homes on the Swan Lake. These swans were brought to Feldman Ecopark by Kharkiv and Kharkiv oblast residents. Each of these beautiful birds had serious injuries in the past, including the burns caused by electrical supply network. Some birds were taken from the ATO zone with wounded wings.
