The Kharkiv oblast orienteering championship among the schoolchildren called “The Big Hopes” tool place in the Feldman Ecopark on October 8. These autumn competitions with the history of many years were carried out in the Feldman Ecopark for the second year running. It gathered the record number of participants – over 400 children and teenagers aged 12-18 from all regions of Kharkiv oblast.
The organizers of the competitions are the Kharkiv Regional Station of Young Tourists and the Kompas Club. The event was conducted under the aegis of the International Charitable Foundation “Oleksandr Feldman Foundation” within the 1,000 Teams Tournament project.
All participants with compasses and topographic maps have successfully covered the route laid on the forest paths of the Feldman Ecopark. According to the organizers, the territory of the Feldman Ecopark is perfect for the similar competitions, as there are different types of landscapes here, including slopes and rises, which are necessary for the orienteering routes.
“Orienteering is the wonderful kind of sport combining both physical loads and mental work, which is especially important for children. In addition, it is a great open-air rest. That is why it is very pleasant that more and more children join our tournament and demonstrate good results,” the project head Serhii Biloskurskyi.
It should be noted that the tournament was carried out within the frameworks of the Orienteering Festival, which takes place on the territory of the Feldman Ecopark twice a year since 2015. Both professionals and amateurs, as well as common visitors of the Ecopark take part in it. Thanks to this festival, almost 50,000 residents of Kharkiv and Kharkiv oblast acquired the skills of orienteering with the help of compass and topographic map.
It should be reminded that 1,000 Teams Tournament is a project aimed at the upbringing of spiritually and physically healthy young generation. It is carried out since 2001, and is Ukraine’s first large-scale project directed at the revival of children and youth sport. Now, the 1,000 Teams Tournament unites different sports and recreational activities on the territory of the Feldman Ecopark. The project provides opportunities to carry out training and competitions in futsal, ping-pong, volleyball, streetball, skiing, cycle race, cross-country run, different kinds of gymnastics, chess, and other kinds of sport.
