A light-grey horse trained for equine-assisted therapy has recently found home in the Horse Complex of Feldman Ecopark. Now she adapts in the new home – gets used to the neighbours in the stable and to riding-master. In spring, when the next season starts, she will start to work with special children in the Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
“This beauty’s name is Dixie, and she is 14. She arrived from our friends – Kyiv Equestrian Club “Nabeg.” She showed her talents in full there: she took part in trick riding, worked with children from the group of beginners, carried sledges and phaeton. Many times Dixie took part in the capital’s festivities. In short, it is an all-round horse,” the head of Feldman Ecopark’s humanitarian programmes Iryna Yavorska told. “However, the most important thing for us is that she has a significant experience as a horse therapist. Not every animal may become therapist – temperament, constitution and, of course, right education and training are very important. Everything is all right in Dixie, and we are sure than all participants of the psychosocial rehabilitation programmes will appreciate this.”
It should be reminded that Feldman Ecopark’s Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation uses eco-therapy and animal-assisted therapy (including equine-assisted therapy) methods comprehensively. For example, horses take part in the lessons with children with CP, Down syndrome, autism and other disorders. It should be also reminded that the Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation functions in the Social and Humanitarian Multi-Complex since 2013 rendering assistance to children and adults, including the families of IDPs and the ATO veterans. During this time, nearly 7,000 persons underwent rehabilitation in the Centre, including more than 2,000 children.
