The collection of primacies Feldman Ecopark, largest in Ukraine, was filled up by a female golden-bellied mangabey. The exotic beauty arrived to Kharkiv under the program of a free exchange of animals between zoological parks of Ukraine.
“The monkey isn’t even a year old. Despite early age, the girl is very independent also contact. She feels fine. We already carried out a number of medical procedures allowing to fill a young organism with useful vitamins and to rid of vermin, – the deputy director Feldman Ecopark Valery Ivashchenko says. – The new inhabitant also was prescribed a diet which is good for this species of primacies. Among her favorite dishes are, of course, fruit snacks: bananas, grapes, oranges and raspberry”.
Now the baby lives in the closed open-air cage. In the near future the monkey will settle in separate apartments on the main avenue Ecopark, employees tell.
We will note that in Feldman Ekopark live three golden-bellied mangabeys – all girls. Now specialists are seeking a suitable couple for them.
We will remind that in Feldman Ecopark live the greatest number of primacies in Ukraine – their number already exceeded 180.
Reference: Golden-bellied mangabey in nature lives only in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Monkeys of this species live in groups; the number of monkeys in each group is approximately 15 animals. They inhabit forests and eat fruit, mushrooms, nuts, insects. Usually for one pregnancy mangabey- mothers give birth only to one cub.
