First eclectus parrot from incubator grows up in Feldman Ecopark

The eclectus nestling was born in incubator three weeks ago. Now the bird is under hand-rearing of the Feldman Ecopark’s specialists. According to our experts, this case is first in their practice.

“The female eclectus who laid the egg is quite bad tempered – it often left a roost. Being apprehensive for the life of future nestling, we have been forced to place the egg to the incubator. In due time the parrot hatched and we began to feed it artificially. The nestling has the first nap and the plumelets will soon appear. Then we will find out the bird’s gender. If a plumage is red, then this is a female and if green – a male” — the Feldman Ecopark’s deputy director Valeriia Ivashchenko told.

According to her, the nestling is under constant supervision of veterinarians, they take care of it and feed the bird with special mixes each two hours, even at night. The specialists do it at a time and have already managed to take a fancy for this little noble parrot. “When it grows up, becomes absolutely manual as the cat or a dog it will also need attention and care of people. Now it is our pride – the first feathery, which was born in our incubator. We brought up the bird and grew it up by our own efforts and it will live in the Ecopark. The Feldman Ecopark will be the parrot’s home in which there are always a lot of friends” — Valeria Ivashchenko assures.

We will note that noble parrots also known as eclectus (lat. Eclectus roratus) belong to a subfamily of real parrots (Psittacinae). The characteristic of this species — existence of sharp difference between females and males. Earlier it was even considered that it is even different species.
The noble parrot is found primarily on the New Guinea island, on small nearby islands and on quite a small plot in the north of Australia. Inhabits the dense woods with fig trees and palm trees.
