Last Sunday, December 25, the old Jewish holiday of Hanukkah was celebrated in the Feldman Ecopark. The representatives of the Jewish community of Kharkiv gathered on the territory of the Regional Landscape Park that on a good tradition to bring each other warm congratulations, to try doughnuts and to enjoy a wonderful fiery show. The chief rabbi of Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region Moishe Moscovitch held the solemn ignition of candles in the menorah – the most important symbol of the Hanukkah.
Let’s note that in the total the menorah candles will be lit for 8 days in Feldman Ecopark since last Friday, December 23. The menorah ignition is carried out by representatives of the Kharkiv religious community of Orthodox Judaism.
“On this big holiday of kindness and light I wish everyone, first of all, a steadfast faith in a miracle as the history proves. May the internal light constantly light up your way no matter how thorny and difficult it is, may you have enough kindness of your hearts to warm a family, relatives and all those in need. I wish wellbeing, love, health and the real unexpected magic to each of you” — the Ukrainian MP and the Ecopark’s founder Oleksandr Feldman congratulated all Jews of the world.
It should be reminded that Jews of the whole world celebrate the Hanukkah from II century BC. The history of the Jewish people says that after an exile of the Greek aggressors from Israel the Jews restored the destroyed temple of the city. In consecration day it was necessary to light the main temple lamp — a menorah which fire needs to be constantly sustained. But there were very little oil for the lamp and it took eight days to make the new one. A real miracle was the fact that the fire in a gold menorah could burn for eight days during which oil stocks were replenished. In memory of this event on the Hanukkah every evening light candles, using, as a rule, a special candlestick — a khanukiyah. It is usually established on the street, at the entrance of your house, or at the window that all people around manage to see it.
