Feldman Ecopark opens new enclosures for raccoons and raccoon dogs

Feldman Ecopark’s raccoons and raccoon dogs have a new cozy home, and the visitors to the Social and Humanitarian Multi-Complex now have an opportunity to see look at these nice four-legged residents closer.

The family of seven raccoons will be settled in the new comfortable home. Three males and four females will live in conditions close to natural ones.

“The new territory for our animals now has a pool – an important condition for these animals maintenance and small houses, where everyone can choose own place to hide in. It is an open enclosure with no grates, in contrast to the old zoos. Instead, solid glass walls were constructed, and therefore, these active and curious animals are as close to the visitors as possible. Everything was made in accordance with the recommendations of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), where our Multi-Complex is a Candidate for Membership,” Feldman Ecopark’s specialists told.

Raccoon dogs have a house-warming together with raccoons. A new spacious enclosure was constructed for them as well. The family of these animals has been increased recently. Last weekend, Feldman Ecopark was given a little raccoon dog. After the little one undergoes a quarantine and gets stronger, the baby girl will move to the enclosure with her congeners, where the couple of raccoon dogs and a female raccoon dog of rare white colour live already.

The enclosures were constructed within the framework of the project of the World Open Foundation for Animal Rehabilitation and Reintroduction (WOFARR) aimed at the maintenance and restoration of the population. The means were raised with the help of charitable campaign “The Art of Mercy.”
