Animals from Riga Zoo brought to Feldman Ecopark

Nearly 30 exotic animals and birds from different regions of the planet have enriched the animal collection of the Regional Landscape Park.

Within the framework of the European Endangered Species Programme, Riga Zoo transferred to Feldman Ecopark two female capybaras, three male porcupines and ten mocós (rock cavies). Among the new birds, seven African spoonbills, one male and two female black crowned cranes and a female red-crowned crane were transferred.

“Despite a long way to their new home, all animals feel fine and are currently in quarantine. The visitors of Feldman Ecopark will be able to look at some of them in two weeks. However, there are heat-loving species among them, and it will be possible to look at them only in spring, when it becomes warmer. The special conditions will be created for some of the new animals. Thus, for example, it is necessary to create a water body for capybaras, while the maintenance of mocós must be based on the fact that they are nocturnal animals,” Feldman Ecopark’s deputy director of zootechnics Valeriia Ivashchenko told.

It is not the first cooperation of Feldman Ecopark with Riga Zoo within the Endangered Species Programme. The Baltic partners have already transferred animals to Kharkiv – a female kiang and a male lynx. “We are developing the cooperation with our counterparts and hope they will visit Feldman Ecopark soon. They will be definitely satisfied with the conditions created for their animals,” Valeriia Ivashchenko notes.
