Polecat and Raccoon Found Home in Feldman Ecopark Good Home

The Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” sheltered a polecat and a raccoon. According to the specialists of the Centre, animals were domestic but when they grew up and became troublesome, people gave them to animal protection activists. Now both small animals stay in the quarantine and undergo rehabilitation and after some time they will be put to enclosures together with their relatives.

“These are adult individuals, the polecat is a male, the raccoon is a female. The animals feel well, never been hurt. Though it is necessary to understand that first of all this is not cats or dogs, but representatives of wild fauna, and it is undesirable to keep them in the ordinary house, – the head of the Predator department of Feldman Ecopark Maksym Kutsenko told. — Our veterinarians already conducted examinations and necessary procedures obligatory for admission on rehabilitation. Animals are in separate boxes, get used to new conditions and animal keepers taking care after them. In two-three weeks we plan to settle a new raccoon female in the enclosure with five relatives. We hope, they will admit her to the group without problems. We will try to bring together a polecat with females – we have seven representatives of this species.”

According to Maksym Kutsenko, new settlers have good appetite, they eat meat, vegetables and fruit.
“Former owners accustomed a raccoon to a dry cat’s forage therefore we try to change their nutrition to our diet – we give chicken meat, offals, eggs and pumpkin, beet, carrot, apples, bananas and many other things — the head of the Predator department of Feldman Ecopark shared animal culinary secrets. — By the way, though polecats are considered to be meat eaters, they eat sweet ripe fruits as well. Ours, for example, enjoy a pear and a melon”.
