A scientific conference took place in the Children’s Ecology and Nature Study Academy of Feldman Ecopark. During the conference, the members of the Club of Young Naturalists, the Centre of Cheiroptera Rehabilitation, the Theatre of Children and Animals, and other schools of the Academy presented their reports on the results of their summer work. Young naturalists and ecologists presented their researches devoted to the environmental protection, local fauna, study of exotic and domestic animals, and improvement of keeping conditions.
“Children have done a thorough research – all reports were highly praised. Some of them will present their reports at the national conferences for schoolchildren in Kyiv. The topics of their researches speak for themselves: “European pond turtle calculation in Siverskyi Donets high-water bed,” “Bats fauna in Derhachi forest,” “Study of mental capabilities of lemurs,” “How to help animals overcome boredom,”” the head of biologists’ club Anna Pozdniakova told. “Or, for example, “Waste sorting and domestic waste recovery” is the report of the youngest, 9-year-old participant of the conference, who decided to study the problem that is urgent for our country.
It is worth noting that the lessons in the Children’s Ecology and Nature Study Academy provide not only a considerable storage of profound knowledge in the field of biology, but also a unique opportunity to carry out field studies. Young naturalists of Feldman Ecopark, in addition to the communication with animals from the abundant collection of the Regional Landscape Park, carry out scientific expeditions to the other nature conservation parks and natural reserves in Kharkiv oblast. They have recently visited Krasnokutsk Arboretum and Slobozhanskyi National Park. Soon, they will also visit Lyman Lake (Zmiiv region) to carry out calculation of birds, which remained there for hibernation.
It should be reminded that the Children’s Ecology and Nature Study Academy of Feldman Ecopark was founded in 2012. It is one of Ukraine’s largest Non-governmental out-of-school educational institutions. More than 1,000 children aged 3-18 attend it.
