Centre for Chiroptera Rehabilitation Accepted First Big Groups of Rescued Bats This Winter

Two big groups of common noctules arrived to the Feldman Ecopark Centre for Chiroptera Rehabilitation last week. These bats were rescued when this colony of hibernating animals was disturbed by the workers conducting repairs in the building in the centre of Kharkiv.

“The specialists and volunteers of the Centre had to work hard – only in one day we received 90 common noctules. The next day, one bigger group arrived. On Friday, we had 200 animals, and each of them needs to be fed! We thank the volunteers who helped to cope with such quantity of animals in need of feeding during the weekend. As on Monday, most of them were already placed on wintering in the special refrigerator (rescued bats are examined, weighed, ringed, give to drink watered and place on wintering. Underweight bats are fed up with bug larvae), only 50 individuals left” – Anton Vlashchenko, the head of the Feldman Ecopark Centre for Chiroptera Rehabilitation told.
