The Feldman Ecopark’s family of coatis got an addition. The bright representatives of the American continent gave birth to three strong kids. Everyone is able to see the newborn coatis. Their two mothers with kids are in the open enclosure and often leave their ‘homes’ to walk their babies and to find some food.
By the way, eating is the favourite activity of coatis, the Feldman Ecopark’s specialist tell. “They always sniff out something and chew all the time,” the Feldman Ecopark’s veterinary Anna Zhukovska says. “That is why we are not surprised that the babies, which are only one month old, bravely refuse to eat mother’s milk and taste the food of the adults: vegetables and fruits disappear in no time. And good appetite is a perfect indicator of a growing organism.”
The future of the babies is unknown yet. It is important for them to be near their mothers and to learn about the independent life.
“Coatis become independent from their parents only when they reach the age of six months. That is why we are going to wait for them to completely grow up, and then we’ll make the decision about their transfer to the other zoos of Ukraine or about the construction of new enclosure for them on the territory of the Feldman Ecopark,” the Feldman Ecopark deputy director of zootechnic issues Valeriia Ivashchenko explained.
It should be reminded that over 2,000 animals lives in the Feldman Ecopark, including 14 coatis.
