Specialists of the Center of Rehabilitation of Bats Feldman Ecopark published article in the leading Ukrainian scientific magazine on zoology. In the future issue of the Vestnik Zoologii following the results of inspection of the large place of a wintering of mouse-eared bat of Brandt in Chuguyev district of the Kharkiv region the article “Contribution to Ecology of Brandts Bat, Myotis Brandtii (Chiroptera, Vespertilionidae), in the North-Eastern Ukraine: Comparison of Local Summer and Winter Bat Assemblages” was published.
“The Brandts bat is very small species of chiropterans; the small animal weighs only 5-7 grams. This species is named in honor of the famous naturalist-zoologist of the 19th century – Johann Friedrich von Brandt. It’s not only a very small animal, but also unexplored, actually our discovery of this species in Izyum district in 2003 was the first for the whole Left-bank Ukraine, – the head of the Center, Cand. Sc. (Biology) Anton Vlashchenko tells. – Great was the surprise when we soon (in 2007) have found the thrown adits where more than one hundred small animals of this species passed the winter. It is, of course, the unique place, information on which deserves the separate publication”.
“The first time I have visited these adits in 2007 being a student of biology faculty of Karazin Kharkiv National University. In the next years it became a good tradition to take the young naturalists Feldman Ecopark in forwarding expeditions. By results of trips the young naturalists prepared scientific reports and presented them at reporting conferences”, – the deputy head of the Center, Candidate of Biology Alyona Prilutskaya comments.
