Work of Feldman Ecopark Centre of Bats Rehabilitation was estimated at the International Conference

The work of the Feldman Ecopark Centre of Bats Rehabilitation was estimated at the international conference.

Specialists of the Center of Rehabilitation of Bats Feldman Ecopark Anton Vlashchenko and Kseniia Kravchenko Elena Rodenko took part in the 5th Berlin Bat Conference (5th International Berlin Bat Meeting: Are bats special?).
“This is the third Berlin Bat Conference in which we participate. Every time it’s something special and incredible! Several hundreds of leading scientists from all over the world (from Australia to Canada) meet in Berlin to provide results of the last researches in the most different areas, from molecular biology to world-wide distribution of chiropterans. The theme of this year’s conference was: Why bats are special? Indeed, they are special and unique among other vertebrates and mammals. Their uniqueness was confirmed by tens of reports on genetics, longevity, physiology of wintering, echolocation and many other themes”, – Anton Vlashchenko told.

“This year we provided three reports on the outcome of work of the Center of Rehabilitation of Bats. Two of them were devoted to bat rehabilitation and one – to the statistics on longevity of chiropterans in 15 years of ringing. Of particular interest was work on rehabilitation, and we started up many useful contacts. We look expect enhancing cooperation with foreign colleagues”, – Kseniia Kravchenko told.

It should be reminded that the programme of rescue and rehabilitation of bats is implemented in Feldman Ecopark since 2013. The necessity in the Centre of Bats Rehabilitation appeared due to the fact that bats, which go into hibernation in winter, often get into trouble due to various reasons: they find themselves outdoors, where they are not able to take care of themselves during the cold season. In winter, the Centre rescues from several hundred to several thousand bats. In spring, they are released back to the wildlife.
