The New Year rushes to us on the wings of the wind on magic sledge through the snow -covered woods and fields, hurrying to acquaint us with a new symbol of eastern horoscope – the owner of the coming year – the Fiery Rooster.
According to eastern horoscope the Rooster is very hardworking and family bird. The Regional Landscape Park’s specialists who take care of the melodious handsome for five years confirm, that these birds are desperate family defenders. There are no astrologists in the Ecopark, but the bird-care employees build forecasts for fun: this year it’s worth paying special attention to a family – the cockerel will surely approve such initiative!
In Feldman Ecopark’s zoo collection roosters and hens (we have more than fifty of them here) are the most favorite animals of children and adults. Contrary to the general consumer attitude towards chicken in the Ecopark gave a different view of these charming creations: they freely walk throughout the territory, photograph with visitors, pose for animalists, and allow to pat and to feed themselves.
The greatest part of a bird’s variety consists of ordinary domestic hens. But there are also others whom we can’t just meet on a grandmother’s farmstead. The Brahmah hens is a real farm decoration, tell in Feldman Ecopark. They are distinguished from relatives by decorative appearance: they possess enviable magnificent plumage and an outstanding bright collar. The last element of a bird’s suit is the hallmark of these hens. The dark birds have light collar, white ones have contrast gray-black colors.
Beautiful appearance is not the only thing a rooster is famous for. It is also rich on vocal talents. It’s plenty of such tenors in the Ecopark. The Yurlovsky vociferous rooster alone counts for a lot! When ordinary hens modestly cry out the habitual songs, this hansom’s “doodledoo” is especially long. The bird can pull a final syllable up to 11 seconds!
A manner to defend the territory, despite of physical capacities is the rooster’s important advantage. The Ecopark’s dandy-hens of decent sizes – they three times smaller than ordinary hens. But, despite it, they are very aggressive in relation to offenders. Surprisingly, they contact people with pleasure: in Feldman Ecopark it’s quite often possible to meet the children holding these hens on hands. These birdies don’t neglect an opportunity to treat themselves from hands, the specialists say.
The fighting hens are the most quick-tempered. It’s easy to recognize them among crowd of domestic birds: they have very high and powerful paws and an outstanding round breast. A fighting rooster is a natural-born rival: it clashes all the time and not always with members of his own species. Ducks and turkey-cocks can get under his angry mood. But these quarrels usually quickly come to an end: the phlegmatic opponent leaves “ring”, and the fighting rooster goes to jam unfortunate fight by favorite grain.
But whatever loud, fussy and sometimes quick-tempered the roosters are – they continue to remain the kind symbol marking sunrise, and that means the arrival of light and heat.
