Ukrainian MP, the founder of Kyiv Interfaith Forum Oleksandr Feldman had a meeting with Pope Francis today, October 18.
The audience took place in Rome within the two-day assembly of the board of the international religious organization Religions for Peace.
“The words said by the Pope to us today cannot leave anyone indifferent. The importance of peace, the importance of interreligious reconciliation, the role of religion in the construction of peaceful society – these are the topics of Pope’s talk to us. He condemned any acts of violence committed in the name of religion and called on all people of good will to jointly defend peace on our planet,” Oleksandr Feldman told.
According to his words, during the talk with Ukrainian delegation, the Pope especially noted the importance of peace for Ukraine. Francis has blessed acorns brought from Ukraine. They will be used to plant the Path of Peace in different cities of Ukraine.
“The first tree will be planted in Feldman Ecopark in Kharkiv,” Ukrainian MP said.
It should be reminded that the assembly of Religions for Peace takes place in Rome (Italy) on October 18-19. The founder of Kyiv Interfaith Forum Oleksandr Feldman is a single representative of Ukraine in the organization.
Religions for Peace is an influential international religious and pacifist organization with the headquarters in New York. It has a consultative status with UNESCO, UNICEF and United Nations Economic and Social Council.
The organization unites religious figures from 92 countries of the world.
