Addition on Feldman Ecopark’s Swan Lake – young storks hatched

Recently, a couple of storks living on Feldman Ecopark’s Swan Lake produced offspring. As previously reported, residents of the Kharkiv oblast rescued these birds last autumn and brought them to the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Good Home.” Birds successfully underwent rehabilitation, made a couple and eggs and were hatching eggs together in a nest on the roof of a heated container for waterfowl for nearly a month. Now they are growing up offspring, together too.

“Four nestlings hatched one by one just one day apart. Parents in turn warm them and feed. Baby birds with appetite swallow everything carefully brought to them in a beak – grasshoppers, small frogs, lizards. Daddy vigilantly protects a nest, keeps it out of strangers. Well, we certainly observe them, feed up gradually with meat and fish —the head of the Birds department in Feldman Ecopark Volodymyr Perekhodovych told. – Approximately in a month young storks will already begin to leave a nest, will learn to fly and hunt. We hope, as having matured, they will spend their first winter in the Ecopark. Conditions on the Swan Lake are great; this is like a resort for water birds – a full board and freedom. Here different wild birds, generally ducks nest”.

It should be reminded that Swan Lake is a unique natural complex for water birds, which exists in Feldman Ecopark for two years. Here, on one of the Three Lakes, hundreds of birds, such as swans, pelicans, storks and ducks are living in natural environment and under the supervision of animal keepers. Some of these birds were rescued and currently undergo rehabilitation successfully thanks to the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home.”
