Noir is the new name of a black panther kid that appeared in the unique animal collection of the Regional Landscape Park.
The French name (‘noir’ means ‘black’) for the noble representative of the feline family was chosen by the social networks users by voting open for everyone during the month.
“We thank all of the friends of Feldman Ecopark who demonstrated high activity and creativity selecting the name for the little black panther. Several thousand persons sent their variants! It should be noted that we took into account only those proposals, the authors of which fulfilled all of the conditions of the competition, including the requirement to repost the start topic on own page. That is why a little more than a thousand offers were picked out. Along with Noir, there were the other no less posh names competing for the palm of supremacy, like Gabriel, Churchill, Marra, Assuad and even Shaitan. However, Noir got the biggest number of likes. 116 persons supported this name,” the Director of Feldman Ecopark Andrii Roshchupkin told. “The name was proposed by Anastasiia Berezovska. As we promised, the winner will get a valuable prize from the MP Oleksandr Feldman, the founder of the Regional Landscape Park Feldman Ecopark. We congratulate Anastasiia and invite all of our friends to participate in the future competitions.”
It should be reminded that the black panther kid was brought to Feldman Ecopark from a private collection within the cooperation programme aimed at the preservation of rare species. It is a boy, and it will 2 month old on May 7. Soon, when the kid grows up a little more and becomes strong enough, the visitors of the Regional Landscape Park will be able to see it. Meanwhile, the little apex predator is under the control of specialists and gets used to the new home.
It should be noted that the black panther is not a separate species. It is the name of dark-coloured leopards and jaguars representing the special genetic variation – the display of melanism. The black panthers, like the other subspecies of leopards are in the IUCN Red List.
It should be also noted that there are nearly 20 animals of 10 species of the feline family in Feldman Ecopark.
