Lessons for vision-impaired children take place in Feldman Ecopark Ski and Biathlon Club

Ski lessons for vision-impaired children started in the Regional Landscape Park on March 2. At the first training children not only tried skiing, but also had a fascinating walking tour along the Feldman Ecopark.

According to the head of the Feldman Ecopark Ski and Biathlon Club Svitlana Ilyinskikh, 32 pupils from the special primary and secondary general boarding school №12 for vision-impaired children visited the training. The Feldman Ecopark’s bus delivers young athletes from the boarding school and back.

“Every kid’s tried skiing and everyone was satisfied with these new impressions. Especially as after the training followed an interesting and informative excursion along the Ecopark. We strongly hope that skiing will become not just a hobby, but also an important part of the life for many of these children. They will become Olympians and will defend the honor of our country at competitions” — Svitlana Ilyinskikh says.

According to Svitlana Ilyinskikh, pupils from the special primary and secondary general boarding school №8 for children suffering from poliomyelitis and cerebral paralysis, which are also engaged in the Ski and Biathlon Club Feldman Ecopark, have already visited Sianky (the Lviv oblast) on the first meet in the rehabilitation centre. Here they skied and undertook physical therapy exercises for two weeks.

It is also worth noting that the pupils of the Ski and Biathlon Club Feldman Ecopark continue to make progress in the regional superiority. On March 10-11 in the Kharkiv ski race championship Anastasiia Nekrasova was the second in a 2,5 km classical race and in massed start at the same distance in freestyle race among girls born in 2004-05. In the same place Polina Stegacheva and Yurii Karpenko (both in the group of children born in 2006 and younger) won the second and the third places respectively. David Bessonov (group of children born in 2004-2005) was the third in a 5 km classical race.

It should be reminded that Feldman Ecopark Ski Club was opened in 2016 and became one of the most popular directions of the 1,000 Teams Tournament project within which the Kharkiv ski race championship took place in the Feldman Ekopark on March 4. It has brought together 82 athletes, the youngest participant was 6 years old, and the oldest one was 57. The special programme for children with special needs takes root in the Ski and Biathlon Club Feldman Ecopark since the autumn of 2017.
