How to help participants in military operations. Israeli psychologists’ training

The four-days training seminar for psychologists, psychotherapists and psychiatrists finished in the media centre “Vremia” (Kharkiv). The training master classes were held by the experts from Israel: the consulting psychologist and the head of the groups in the “National administration to struggle drug addiction and alcohol abuse” under the Haifa mayor’s office Gila Petrova, and the social worker, the lecturer and the consultant, the officer of the psychological service of Israel Defense Forces, the major in the reserve Moti Pikelner.

Having rich experience of work in field conditions, they shared their best practices with Ukrainian specialists.

“The main and true purpose of our visit is to help Ukrainian colleagues to solve the problem of overcoming the consequences of a military injury and posttraumatic syndrome,” the consulting psychologist Gila Petrova noted. “We see the dynamics of the developments in Ukraine, and the dynamics of the development of specialists. Ukrainian psychologist are sufficiently trained, they manage problems remarkably, and this gives us the possibility to raise some deeper professional issues.”

The practicing psychologists, psychotherapists and psychiatrists of Kharkiv took part in the training. The intensive course was also undergone by the workers of the Feldman Ecopark Centre of psychosocial rehabilitation, who implement the special program for the ATO participants and their families.

The event took place under the patronage of the International Charitable Foundation “Oleksandr Feldman Foundation.”

“Thanks to the cooperation between Israel and Ukraine, we are able to learn new methods perfected by the best experts of the world for years,” told the chief specialist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in medical psychology and psychotherapy, the Doctor of Medical Science, the professor and the Head of the Feldman Ecopark Centre of psychosocial rehabilitation Borys Mykhailov. “We think that this is the beginning of the large-scale cooperation. We hope that in the future, we will be able to arrange similar meetings constantly, but in other directions, the peaceful ones.”

It should be noted that this is the eighth visit of Israeli experts to Ukraine. The previous trainings were held in Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa and Kyiv.
