Feldman Ecopark Rehabilitates Stork Rescued in Zolochiv

A stork from Zolochiv that lost family and whose rescue was reported by Kharkiv mass media, has been recently brought to the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home”. Now the bird undergoes rehabilitation and will join relatives on the Swan Lake.

“Stork underwent veterinary examination immediately upon arrival – neither injuries nor wounds were found. The rescued bird was treated from parasites and a blood sample’s been taken to check for diseases and internal injuries. Avian stays in quarantine, under constant supervision, receives balanced nutrition and vitamins to restore health,” – the head of the Birds department in Feldman Ecopark Volodymyr Perekhodovych told.
According to him, it is a young individual, born this spring and already fully-fledged. Unfortunately, the bird is making no attempt to take off. This may be concerned with stress.

“The appetite is fine, that’s good, but a bird does not fly yet. It means that it is still early to release it to free settlement. Recently, a similar victim was brought to us from the region and recovered literally in 24 hours! Now it flies over Swan Lake. Our present foundling needs assistance – massage of wings, stimulation for flyweight movements. I think in a few days everything will be fine, and we will bring it to other waterfowl to live in natural habitat, but under protection. Such blatant outrage the stork’s family suffered from, won’t happen here.”- Volodymyr Perekhodovych told.
It should be reminded that in the city of Zolochiv (Kharkiv oblast) unknown shot with pneumatic weapons a family of storks nested on a water tower. One rescued stork nestling subsequently appeared near retirement home. Kind-hearted people, with the assistance of the editorial office of the local newspaper Zoria brought a bird to Feldman Ekopark.

It should be reminded that the Swan Lake is a unique nature complex for water birds, which exists in the territory of Feldman Ecopark for three years. Here, on one of the water bodies of the Three Lakes, more than a hundred of birds – swans, pelicans, storks, ducks – live in natural conditions, but under the care of animal keepers. The part of them was rescued and undergoes rehabilitation thanks to the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home.”
