International workshop on bats will take place in Feldman Ecopark

The Feldman Ecopark Centre for Cheiroptera Rehabilitation will hold an open Ukrainian-Poland workshop on chiropterology (the study of bats) on July 21. It will start from the theoretical part (from noon to 4 p.m.) in the conference hall of the AVEC Concern (70, Sumska Str.), and will be followed by the practical lessons in the evening (from 8.15 p.m. to 11 p.m.) in the Social and Humanitarian Multi-Complex Feldman Ecopark. Everyone is able to take part in the event. It is just necessary to register beforehand (https://goo.gl/Eqe2ry).

“Our friends from the Jagiellonian University in Poland will arrive in Kharkiv to exchange experience. We will share the results of the Centre’s activities, while our counterparts are going to tell about their achievements. This workshop is open and will be interesting for a wide audience. The special feature of the event is the demonstration of how the bats are caught for monitoring and ringing. It will be carried out after the sunset in the territory of Three Lakes in Feldman Ecopark,” the head of the Feldman Ecopark Centre for Cheiroptera Rehabilitation Olena Prylutska told. “Everyone, who wishes to take part in this scientific and educational quest, should take roll mats, warm clothes, hot tea or coffee, roll mats and gloves. The most steadfast ones will be able to spend night outdoors, and at 4 a.m., to take part in the festive release of the caught bats.”

It should be reminded that the Centre for Cheiroptera Rehabilitation in Feldman Ecopark is an animal protection organization, which is unique not only in Ukraine, but also across Eastern Europe. During five years of its activities, it rescued nearly 10,000 bats. It should be noted that all of the bat species in Ukraine are in the Red Book. The rescued and rehabilitated animals are returned to the nature. This year, the record number of bats – 2,500 animals – was released in the territory of Feldman Ecopark. It should be also reminded that the funds raised with the help of the charitable campaign “The Art of Mercy” will be aimed at the development of the Centre for Cheiroptera Rehabilitation and three other projects carried out by Feldman Ecopark.
