Feldman Ecopark participated in seminar of Ukrainian Association of Zoos and Aquariums

The Feldman Ecopark’s experts visited the seminar of the Ukrainian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (UAZA) held in Odessa. The event was held in conjunction with the 95 anniversary of the Odessa Zoo and brought together representatives of all profile institutions of the country.

“The seminar was devoted to modern forms of ecological and educational activity and methods of attention getting. The colleagues imparted experience, discussed problems, disputed. We’ve told about our work, in particular about the Children’s Ecology and Nature Study Academy which remains the non-state center of out-of-school education, largest in Ukraine”, –the Feldman Ecopark’s deputy director of zootechnics Valeriia Ivashchenko told.

According to her words, the seminar of UAZA was also useful as a platform on exchange of the practical knowledge connected with plans for the zoo collection enlargement and improvement of the animal live environment.

“In the Odessa Zoo the reconstruction of the enclosure with the Amur tigers has been made and the construction of the new enclosure for the family of brown bears started. In general, the system of enrichment of the animal live environment is well developed here — there’s much we could learn from.” — Valeriia Ivashchenko noted.

The three-day seminar programme was rich and included not only out front communication and attendance of a zoo, but also walking tours along the Biopark and the Lower Dniester National Park.

“We agreed to cooperate and we will try to land a helping hand to make everything planned to the 100 anniversary of the Odessa Zoo happen. Now we wait for the return visit of our colleagues and friends to the Feldman Ecopark” — Valeriia Ivashchenko summed up.

It should be reminded that in 2016, the Regional Landscape Park Feldman Ecopark became the member of the Ukrainian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (UAZA) and the candidate for membership in the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA). The Feldman Ecopark’s partners in programme aimed at the preservation of rare species are many zoos worldwide, among them are: Riga National Zoo (Latvia), Dvur Kralove (Czech Republic), Jerusalem Biblical Zoo (Israel), the zoological complex Skansen (Sweden), Maya Biosphere Reserve (Guatemala) and others.
