Feldman Ecopark invites everyone to celebrate an old Slavic holiday Koliada and the beginning of Christmastide during the weekend.
Our ancestors celebrated Koliada after the winter solstice, after which the day starts to become longer little by little and the Sun is already waiting for spring. In old times, it was the start of Christmastide lasting from December 24 to January 5. It was common to dress up as various animals and evil spirits, to walk along the streets noisily, to sing carols and to gather treats. These traditions survived – on Christmas Eve according to the Julian calendar, children go door to door singing carols and asking for coins and candies. Feldman Ecopark offers everyone to start this festive marathon earlier – on Christmas celebrated according to the Gregorian calendar.
On December 24, the guests will be welcomed by not only the much-loved Olaf the Snowman, but also the Host and the Hostess, who will generously treat children with candies and cookies in return for their carol-singing. Of course, children and adults will be also able to take part in dancing, singing, cheerful games, and New Year’s master classes. Santa Claus’ post office will continue its work: the visitors to Feldman Ecopark will be able to send a letter to a winter wizard with the New Year’s present requests, and to create greeting cards for the relatives and friends. In addition, a traditional holiday “My Birthday in Ecopark!” is waiting for those who were born in December, while all children will be able to take part in the season’s first New Year’s Party. It starts in the Horse Complex at 11 a.m. on December 24.
