Recently, the raccoon dog was brought to the Regional Landscape Park. Before it was kept in captivity in Kostiantynivka (Donetsk Oblast) with the intention of selling it, perhaps for training of dogs. The animal was saved from bleak prospect thanks to an intervention of volunteers who redeemed it and gave to the All-Ukrainian Service for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home”.
The raccoon dog (a yearling female) is currently in quarantine under the supervision of specialists of the Feldman Ecopark’s veterinary service. According to them, the animal’s state of health is satisfactory. After blood examination, dehelmintization, bacterination and other necessary procedures which will take about two weeks the new pet will fill up the Regional Landscape Park’s zoo collection — it will lodge in the cozy open enclosure and the visitors will be able to see it. Further we will surely start to search for couple for it.
It should be reminded that this spring the Feldman Ecopark sheltered a badger Vasia also salvaged by animal rights activists from destiny to become a live feed for training of dogs. Quite recently, after successful completion of the rehabilitation course, Vasia moved to the new comfortable open enclosure.
“Unfortunately, in our country the use of raccoon dogs, badgers, foxes for training of dogs is not punishable by law. The Internet dazzles with announcements concerning sale of animals for a bloody training of hunting dogs. The existing live feed (control and test) stations, in fact, are concentration camps in which animals are doomed to awful existence and terrible death. Worldwide such shameful practice of use of dumb animals for cruel entertainments is condemned by animal rights activists — the head of the All-Ukrainian Service for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home”Iryna Podvoiska told. — We are pleased that more and more our fellow citizens consciously choose the humane attitude towards animals, don’t just walk past cruelty cases and try to rescue the quadrupeds in distress. The main goal of our project and the whole Feldman Ecopark is in education and promotion of the conceptions of the good “.
