A swan with a bullet injury of the wing has been recently brought to the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home.” The wounded bird was found in the street of the town of Vysokyi (Kharkiv oblast). Kind-hearted people took it and called the hot line (0-800-302-303) to contact the specialist of the Centre. The latter immediately brought the victim to veterinarians.
“It is a young female, approximately 4-5 months old. The nature of the wound indicates that the animal was shot by a small-calibre weapon. That hardly happened during hunting, and apparently, someone just had fun this inhuman way,” the head of the Birds department Volodymyr Perekhodovych told. “Now, there is no threat to the life of this feathered beauty. It was possible to avoid tissue necrosis of the wounded wing thanks to the timely provided assistance. We hope our patient recovers. Veterinarians take care of the bird and give it the necessary treatment. Perhaps, some time later, the swan will be able to fly, but it has to spend this winter here. As soon as the wound heals, the bird will be released to the Swan Lake to its congeners.”
It should be reminded that the Swan Lake is a unique nature complex for water birds, which exists in the territory of Feldman Ecopark for two years. Here, on one of the water bodies of the Three Lakes, more than a hundred of birds – swans, pelicans, storks, ducks – live in natural conditions, but under the care of animal keepers. The part of them was rescued and undergoes rehabilitation thanks to the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home.”
