In the summer, the volunteers from the Society for the Protection of Animals “Lada” of Bakhmut (the Donetsk oblast) found and nursed back to health a wounded swan, and then decided to bring a bird under guardianship of the specialists of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home.
According to the volunteer Olena Lavrushko, the locals phoned and reported that a wounded swan was found in one of municipal reservoirs in Bakhmut.
“We found a swan at the end of June and called him Vas’ka. Most likely, the bird appeared on a reservoir when there were already a couple of swans with a brood of nestlings and, probably, the male behaved aggressively, trying to force out the stranger. The swan was in a serious condition, with the injured head and it was necessary to nurse the bird at home as it was impossible to leave it on a reservoir in such condition.” — Olena says.
According to volunteers, the experts ready to land a helping hand were found not at once. In order to render the necessary assistance, the volunteers contacted the Kiev ornithologists, who told the correct algorithm of assisting the feathery patient.
“It was no opportunity to keep a swan, such bird needs a reservoir, special conditions and supervision. I’ve already read about Feldman Ecopark, heard responses of colleagues and decided that here it will be better for a swan. I called the hot line of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” told about the situation. Thanks to compassionate people we managed to raise funds and to bring our ward to Kharkiv” — the volunteer from Bakhmut told.
The Feldman Ecopark’s veterinarians take care of the newcomer now, and soon the bird will join the relatives on the Swan Lake.
It should be noted that the unique natural complex for birds – the Swan Lake was constructed in the territory of Feldman Ecopark two years ago. Among a great number of birds – swans, ducks, storks and even pelicans living here under supervision of animal keepers, part of them was rescued and underwent rehabilitation by efforts of the specialists of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home”.
