The representatives of animal protection organizations from several cities of Ukraine had a meeting in the town of Kryvyi Rih to discuss the issues of management of stray animal population exclusively humanely.
The Head of All-Ukrainian Service for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” Iryna Podvoiska, who took part in the meeting, informed that the event was held in Kryvyi Rih Town Hall and was attended by the Vice President of the Association of Animal Protection Organizations of Ukraine Maryna Surkova (city of Kyiv), the Head of NGO “Beam of Life” Yana Finenko (town of Kryvyi Rih), the volunteers from Kryvyi Rih and the Head of the Improvement and Housing Policy Administration under Kryvyi Rih Town Executive Committee Ivan Karyi.
“Kryvyi Rih currently constructs the centre for temporary postoperative support. It will also be a place for rehabilitation, behavioural correction and adaptation of urban animals,” Iryna Podvoiska told. “In addition to the adoption of the programme of humane management of stray animal population, the construction of the centre for support and adaptation of animals, considering the fact that the length of the town of more than 110km, we offered to establish several centres for sterilization of animals living in the town. Moreover, one of the points of the programme is the identification of animals with their registration in the single database.”
According to Iryna Podvoiska this experience will be useful for study by all large cities, including Kharkiv, as the task of the similar centres is to provide free sterilization of stray animals, provision of favorable conditions for sterilization and servicing of pets, as it is exactly domestic animals that make up an inexhaustible source for filling the streets with stray kids.
