The Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” participated in the coordination police meeting with utility services and animal protection volunteers that was held in November in Kharkiv. During round table meeting, the participants discussed topical issues, shared experience and agreed on further cooperation. The animal protection police became one of the main subjects brought up at the meeting: the prospects of its creation and concrete steps in this direction.
“In the spring 2018, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the World Open Foundation for Animal Rehabilitation and Reintroduction (WOFARR) signed the Memorandum on Cooperation in which our Centre is incorporated. It also about concerns collaboration in animal welfare. To date, we together with specialists of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs develop methodical recommendations. They will help police officers to orient in crimes committed against animals, to classify them, to prepare necessary documents and to collect exhibits.” — the head of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” Iryna Podvoiska told.
According to Iryna, the printing grant for field officers and local police officers is currently being prepared. Besides, creation of the interactive page with a training course of professional development concerning animal protection on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is planned. After passing, it will be possible to receive the corresponding certificate of the animal protection police officer.
Besides, Iryna Podvoiska noted that the public organization at district police department is already created for prevention of animal cruelty cases in the territory of the Osnovyanskii district (Kharkiv). According to the schedule, animal protection volunteers together with police officers will respond to calls concerning violation against animals and provide consultations to police officers and to citizens. Other participants of the coordination meeting supported this idea. In particular, the senior inspector of department of district police officers of Preventive Action Management, the Police Lieutenant Colonel Roman Toryanik suggested to conduct joint raids with involvement of representatives of public organizations in all city districts for carrying out scheduled sensitization with citizens, identification and suppression of the violations of the legislation of Ukraine concerning pets.
