The head of the All-Ukrainian Service for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” Iryna Podvoiska took part in the round table meeting devoted to a stray animal issue in Lebedin (the Sumy oblast).
Local and Kharkiv zoodefenders, the mayor of Lebedin Oleksandr Baklykov and representatives of municipal services participated in the compaign named “Dealing with humane stray animal issues within the laws of Ukraine”.
Iryna Podvoiska together with the Kharkiv zoodefenders presented the participants of the round table the most modern mechanism of control of the number of stray animals with the help of humane methods. — CSVR (capture, sterilization, vaccination, return to natural habitat). “Killing stray animals is not only inhumane act, it doesn’t correspond to the European approaches of the stray animal treatment, but it is also noneffective – according to the statistics, in the cities using slaughterering methods the quantity of stray dogs only rises — the head of the “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” emphasized. – At the same time, there are already many examples of multifaceted approach use in Ukraine when dogs are sterilized, clipped for identification and zoodefenders try to find home for them and just as important propagandize a responsible conduct to animals among residents”. According to Iryna Podvoiska, implementation of such modern approaches can be financially favorable to local gromadas – it creates opportunities to get grants from the Ukrainian and international organizations. Interest in the CSVR project is already shown in the Sumy oblast, in particular – in Okhtyrka.
The decision to hold further meeting for working out the concept of stray animal treatment in Lebedin became the result of the round table.
