Bird Day in Feldman Ecopark was celebrated by eco-protective campaign

The “Preserve Birds Together” project’s participants hanged out fifty new bird boxes in the Regional Landscape Park. The project’s initiators are students and teachers of the Environmental Studies faculty of the H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University. Last Saturday together with the Kharkiv pupils and Feldman Ecopark’s guests they resolved “housing problem” of birds whose existence is under threat. “The project is directed to recruitment of insectivorous birds in the Kharkiv region” — the author, the Master of Biology of the H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University Yuliia Mogilna told. She emphasized that time and place of project launch are chosen not coincidentally.

“The international ecological holiday — The Bird Day is celebrated on April, 1 and we decided to celebrate it by providing a campaign in the Feldman Ecopark. We brought and hanged out artificial log gums: nesting boxes and tit’s houses. They are intended for small birds living in hollows of trees and aren’t able to hollow out for themselves unlike, for example, woodpeckers — Yuliia Mogilna told. — These species of birds are especially vulnerable – because of human activity they are forced to leave habitual habitats and this causes disbalance in the local ecosystem. Our task is to create the conditions for safe nesting”.

It should be reminded that the release of birds into nature is annually held in the Regional Landscape Park. Last year we let out more than 300 birds. And at the end of 2016 the Feldman Ecopark organized “Eat&Fly” challenge-campaign on creation of bird feeders. Thousands of Kharkiv citizens and residents of other areas of Ukraine participated in it.

“We always welcome similar initiatives of the studying youth and are ready to cooperate. The Feldman Ecopark is an open platform for implementation of any eco-protective, scientific, creative and sports projects — the Feldman Ecopark’s director Andrii Roshchupkin told.
