Future law-enforcement officers became Good Home’s volunteers

The cadets of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs became volunteers in the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home.” The regularly come here during their summer holidays in order to help to take care of the pets under rehabilitation. The main thing is that they learn the humane treatment of our four-legged friends in practice.

“The guys help around the centre, walk the dogs around the forest, bathe them in the lake, and train them to follow simple orders. Each of our volunteers is responsible for 2-3 four-legged companions. It is very important for the stray animals, who became victims of human cruelty – they learn to trust people again and socialize. This means that they obtain more chances to find a new home, a loving family,” the head of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” Iryna Podvoiska told.

The assistance to the Good Home’s animals was initiated by the cadets of the University, and developed within the frameworks of the memorandum of cooperation between the World Open Foundation for Animal Rehabilitation and Reintroduction (WOFARR) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

“For our cadets, this volunteering is a form of psychological training. They learn to empathize and love the neighbor, to humanely treat every living creature. The future police officer shall not be hard-hearted towards the wretched and stray ones. Here, in Good Home, communicating with those, who have already had a rough time, young man and women, who have chosen the profession of law-enforcement officer, become more humane and kinder. This, perhaps, is the main thing,” the curator of volunteers, the docent at the department of police administrative activity under the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, Major Mariana Kachynska noted.

She emphasized that before the beginning of study, the cadets arrive in Good Home every day. Later on, they are planning to continue their work in the Centre on weekends all year round. Moreover, the cooperation between animal advocates and law-enforcement officers will include the introduction of the programme of rehabilitation of stray animals by way of their training for work in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. For this purpose, the group of dog trainers, which has been recently formed in the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, will undergo training in Feldman Ecopark.

It should be reminded that on May 32, the World Open Foundation for Animal Rehabilitation and Reintroduction (WOFARR) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine singed the Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at the counteraction to cruelty to animals. It stipulates the whole range of animal protection activities, including the training of police officers. It should be reminded that the work of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home,” as well as some other projects of the Social and Humanitarian Multi-Complex is integrated with the activity of the WOFARR in Ukraine.
