Ukrainian MP, the founder of the Institute of Human Rights and Prevention of Extremism and Xenophobia (IHRPEX), Oleksandr Feldman urged the residents of Kharkiv to unite against extremism. He wrote this on his Facebook page.
“Tragic news disturbs Kharkiv again: the Security Service of Ukraine detained an illegal migrant who gathered ISIL supporters in one of the residential districts of the city of Kharkiv, using religious activity as a cover. He planned to convey them to Western Europe later.
There is no sense to tell about this dangerous radical group as it is always in news. That is why, it is very worrying that extremists, using the fact that Kharkiv is a multinational, multicultural and tolerant city, do not stop trying to use it in their purposes,” the MP noted.
He also reminded about the autumn scandal, when a Jordanian medical students recruited by the IS in Kharkiv committed a terrorist attack causing numerous deaths in Iraq.
“This is the reason why I urge all law-enforcement authorities to be more active and all the community, the residents of Kharkiv to unite against the ideology of hate, extremism and xenophobia, whatever appearance it takes. Only our joint efforts will maintain peace and quiet in our city,” Oleksandr Feldman declared.
It should be reminded that the Security Service of Ukraine disclosed in Kharkiv the attempt to convey the supporters of the international terrorist organization Islamic State from Syria to the countries of Western Europe via Ukraine. In the end of last week, during the search, the special service officers found the organizer of a channel and two persons prepared for the further illegal transportation. According to the Security Service, the organizer is a citizen of one of the neighbouring countries who stayed in Ukraine illegally. He is suspected by the law-enforcement authorities of possible complicity in terrorist activity.
