Oleksandr Feldman on Kalynivka explosions: personnel decisions must follow and approach to ammunition storage must be revised

“This night’s explosions in Kalynivka were classified as an act of sabotage. Of course, all circumstances of this case must be investigated carefully and fairly. The relevant personnel and organizational decisions must follow. And I think that the approach to ammunition storage must be finally revised,” Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Feldman wrote in his Facebook page.

He emphasized that the country at war, where the storages explode with the frequency of two times per week (the previous incidents happed several days ago in Mariupol), is a nonsense. “Whatever are the results of the investigation, it is already possible to assume now that yes, it was an act of sabotage. As sabotage also means negligence, inaction, indifference, and connivance concerning the security issues. Chekhov’s story “A Malefactor” tells about a negligent peasant, who unscrewed metal supports of the rails, which caused a railway disaster. In court, he could not understand for a long time what his guilt was. Yes, he unscrewed some nuts, but why to jail a person? Those who make the explosions of ammunition storages in Ukraine possible are not some naive peasants, but skilled and responsible officials. The punishment must be as severe as possible,” Oleksandr Feldman noted.

He also drew attention to the huge work done by the rescue services, volunteers and other caring people to evacuate more than 22,000 citizens during the night from the incident location. They took people out of the place, provided them with food and clothes. “I would like to express a big respect and gratitude to all of those men and women for their fearlessness and kindness!” the politician wrote.
