The representatives of the family of even-toed ungulates – deer and fallow deer – in the Social and Humanitarian Multi-Complex gave birth to nice kids.
“Six kids of red deer and four kids of fallow deer were born healthy, and the visitors are already able to look at them in the enclosures. They are currently under the thorough attention of professional veterinarians. When they grow up enough and get stronger, they, perhaps, will be given to other zoos. And we will definitely take care of the best maintenance conditions for them there,” they told in Feldman Ecopark.
It should be reminded that the ungulate breeding and reintroduction programme is one of the directions of cooperation of Feldman Ecopark and the World Open Foundation for Animal Rehabilitation and Reintroduction (WOFARR). Now, the animal collection of Ecopark, which is one of the largest in Ukraine, includes more than 2,000 animals of 300 species, including more than 350 angulates.
In the nature, the red deer is widely spread in deciduous forests of Western and Central Europe, as well as Asia and North America. These animals may be also found in North Africa. Calves have a distinct spotted colouring that helps them hide from predators. Thanks to their noble kind and beauty, these animals became popular in heraldry. The image of a red deer may be found on the emblems of many cities.
The fallow deer are the representatives of the family of deer. They live on the entire territory of Europe and in Asia. They have been brought to North and South America and Australia. These animals prefer to live in forests with spacious open areas. Nevertheless, they are able to adapt to other landscapes as well. It is known that the fallow deer was from time immemorial the symbol of grace and speed in human culture, where the image of this animal is used in many mythological stories.
