Unusual paintings by Israeli painters are displayed in AVEC Gallery

The exhibition “Beach Rackets. Made in Israel” was opened in the AVEC Gallery. It exhibits the works by 70 contemporary Israeli painters painted on unusual material – wooden rackets for beach badminton.

“Beach badminton is a dynamic and interesting sport, and it became one of the symbols of Israel. That is why the Israeli painters of different creative schools, who obtained an unusual material for work, tried not only to express their individual concept, but also to approach this challenge creatively and even with humour,” an arts critic Anat Ariely told. “The painters used their imagination, and consequently an absolutely identical initial material started to ‘tell’ own story arousing various feelings and emotions. Some of them accentuated the material by changing its contour and creating a new image, the other rackets became an embodiment of the diverse palette of views – from nature to philosophy. There are some painters, who have even extended the borders and showed the depths of human soul, its wishes and doubts.”

Since beach badminton is closely connected with the sea, and many works are also devoted to this topic, the sea theme prevailed during the solemn opening ceremony arranged by Israeli Cultural Center in Kharkiv. Many representatives of Jewish community and other guests were able to take part in master classes in racket painting and in creation of keychains, to braid “sea” hair using blue ribbons, to take photos in the thematic photo zone, to obtain own portrait pained by a professional caricaturists, and to taste traditional sweets.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by the Second Secretary of the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine Alisa Liderman and the project curator Yaffa Meir, who has already presented it in Germany and Spain, and in Ukrainian cities of Odesa and Kyiv.

The exhibition in the AVEC Gallery (70, Sumska Str.) is open for everyone till November 19 (from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.). The entrance is free.
