All-Ukrainian Service for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” initiates the pilot project aimed at cooperation with and training of the departments of the National Police in the field of animal protection activity. “It is necessary to establish the position of inspectors in the structure of the National Police to work in the field of animal and nature protection. The similar structures exist in many countries of the world for a long time and show good results,” the head of Feldman Ecopark Good Home Iryna Podvoiska stated.
According to her words, in our country, people who torture animals are almost never brought to responsibility; and this indicates that the police departments are still not ready to carry our comprehensive work in this direction. At the same time, the animal protection activists state that animal rights in Europe and America are not the empty words. There is a special animal protection police to watch the compliance with animal treatment regime and to takes strict measures stipulated by the law towards the violators. For example, in Germany, the lawyers are involved in order to protect the interests of society in the area of preservation of the biodiversity of animal world. In the USA, the killing of an animal is treated as the killing of a person and other grave crimes (category “A”).
“The priority in the cooperation of the National Police and animal protection organization is the training of law-enforcement officers by the skilled specialists in the area of animal right protection, as well as the policy-making activity,” Iryna Podvoiska emphasized. “In this issue we are supported by Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Feldman, and I hope that the relevant bill will be soon prepared and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.”
According to Iryna Podvoiska, it is also necessary to work with the local self-government authorities: in order to improve the situation for animals, it is necessary to prepare and adopt amendments to the territory maintenance rules.
