Before the beginning of the new year 2019, Bat Rehabilitation Center of Feldman Ecopark accepted several bats, which had been rescued and ringed several years ago. According to the Centre’s experts, exactly the cases like this one demonstrate the effectiveness of their nature conservation activity, and are quite important for the study of habitats and ways of life of bats.
“These animals have already undergone rehabilitation in the centre. Before being released in the nature, they were ringed. They have survived, adapted and returned in their favourite wintering areas. Thus, in the end of December, a common noctule, which had been ringed in February 2014, was brought here. It was found in the same building as the previous time,” Oleksandra Kysel, the worker at the Bat Rehabilitation Center told. “Together with this bat, common noctules ringed in September 2015, September and November 2017, September and March 2018 have been also rescued. As of today, each of these bats has already gained necessary weight and spend winter in special refrigerators.”
Now, the workers at the Bat Rehabilitation Center of Feldman Ecopark sum up their results for 2018 and soon, they are going to report how many animals were rescued, ringed and released, and how many animals remain in the Centre for lifelong rehabilitation due to the injures that make it impossible for them to fly.
It should be reminded that it is necessary to inform specialists, especially in winter, about found bats.
It should be also reminded that Bat Rehabilitation Center of Feldman Ecopark is a unique animal protection organization not only in our country, but also in Eastern Europe. During five years since its opening, it rescued nearly 10,000 bats, all species of which in Ukraine are in the Red List. The rescued and rehabilitated animals are returned to the nature. Last year, a record-breaking number of bats were rescued – 2,500 animals.
