The experts of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” visited the town of Lozova (Kharkiv oblast) within the framework of introduction of the programme of humane control of the number of stray animals in Ukrainian cities and towns.
Using the CSVR programme (capture, sterilization, rabies vaccination, return to natural habitat), the team of Good Home consisting the veterinarians and a professional catcher of unsocialized animals caught and sterilized 90 animals (44 dogs and 46 cats) during three days.
“It is a great result, which was achieved thanks to the support from volunteers, caring residents and local authorities. It was not an easy task: they had to spend time to catch some dogs, which are afraid of people. Moreover, the town still has no equipped sterilization unit, which made the work of veterinarians harder, as it was necessary to transfer the animals after surgeries to the other place for rehabilitation,” the head of Good Home Iryna Podvoiska emphasized. “Despite the difficulties, we understand that our work is not made in vain: thousands of kittens and puppies will not be born in the streets and will not die as the result of irretrievable capture. We hope that soon, Lozova will have its own sterilization unit, where it will be possible to make surgeries, after which the animals will stay there for rehabilitation.”
It should be noted that the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” helps to introduce the CSVR programme in the range of towns of Kharkiv oblast and other regions of Ukraine. In addition, since its opening, the workers and volunteers of Good Home have already found home for nearly 22,000 pets and rescued more than 6,000 wild animals.
