A newborn appeared in Feldman Ecopark’s Horse Complex: Kvitka, the jenny, which moved to Kharkiv from the Dnipro zoo a year and a half ago, gave birth to a charming kid. A newborn baby-girl was name Zaika (means ‘little hare’) for the unusually long ears.
“During the time spent in Ecopark, Kvitka adapted perfectly and got stronger. The labour was very quick and there were no problems. According to our specialists, the newborn is absolutely healthy and feels fine,” the head of humanitarian programmes in Feldman Ecopark Iryna Yavorska told. “We have foals born in the Horse Complex every year. And we think that it is not the last one this year.”
Zaika and Kvitka will be soon transferred to the Good Donkey farm, and all visitors to the Social and Humanitarian Multi-Complex will be able to look at them. There they will live with other donkeys, which take part in the asinus-therapy lessons – the type of equine-assisted therapy used by the Feldman Ecopark Centre for Psychosocial Rehabilitation to help children with special needs. So, perhaps, Zaika will also be able to become a therapist animal and take part in the rehabilitation lessons.
It should be reminded that after the Dnipro zoo, which was in improper condition, was shut down, more than 50 animals were transferred to Feldman Ecopark in August-September 2016. There they found a new home, proper care and maintenance conditions. The rescued animals include rhesus macaques, porcupine, wolves, raccoon dogs, donkeys, sheep, common buzzards, rabbits, peacocks, ducks, Brahma chickens, fancy cocks, Vietnamese Pot-bellied pigs, Cameroon dwarf goats and Rocky Mountain goats, fallow deer, ostriches, camel, raccoon, hog and llama.
