The most ordinary mongrel named Stem undergoes rehabilitation in the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” for nearly a month. The story of this dog is quite typical and common for its congeners – stray animals, which are numerous on the streets of our cities. This story is not only about the callousness of human hearts, but also about their kindness. It was told by Iryna Podvoiska, the head of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home.”
In the beginning of February, the Centre received a call with the request for assistance to an exhausted and very neglected dog that apparently got loose and roamed along Kharkiv streets. The dog risked being knocked down by a car. The Centre’s workers urgently went to take an animal to the veterinary hospital.
“It was a big ball of dirt and hair, and it was difficult to understand, what was that creature. “It” was scared and perplexed, it growled aggressively and whimpered lamentably. We had to apply a lot of efforts to put it into the car,” recollects Iryna Podvoiska. “In the clinic, veterinarians gave it injections of sedative and started to free it from the stinking cocoon – they sheared off more than ten kilograms of that terrible hair. Then, they proceeded to the treatment of numerous injuries and intertrigos. Luckily, the dog – we immediately called it Stem – had no serious injuries. Although, it appeared that it had poor eyesight.”
After the first aid, the dog underwent the complex examination – blood analysis, ultrasound and so on. Many Kharkiv residents, as well as the residents of other towns, who found out about Stem from social networks, helped to carry out the necessary procedures. It was found out that this four-legged foundling was very young, had no pathologies and the eyesight would be completely normal soon. The dog undergoes treatment and rehabilitation in the Good Home now – it recovers its strength and learns to trust people. It is full, well-groomed and has good clothes – a new collar and gorgeous winter suit (while the new hair is growing). The dog needs only a reliable, loving and own Person to be absolutely happy.
“Stem turned out to be a wonderful guy! It gets on with people admirably. Although the dog has a character – it does not allow being shoved about. It is a real guard, like its possible ancestors – the Hungarian sheepdog, or Komondors. Its previous owners never contacted us, and, perhaps, Stem does not need them, considering the condition it was found in,” Iryna Podvoiska told. “We hope that it will find a new family to become a loyal friend and defender in it.”
It should be reminded that Aina, the sheepdog with a wheelchair, has recently found a new family. The dog also underwent rehabilitation in Feldman Ecopark Good Home. Now it lives in the picturesque manor near Kyiv, and, according to the new caring owner Anastasiia, it gradually learns to walk without the assistance of a ‘vehicle,’ which made it famous.
It should be also reminded that since its opening, the workers and volunteers of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” found owners for nearly 18,000 pets and rescued more than 4,000 wild animals.
